Everything you need to get the most out of GifSpot.
What is GifSpot?
GifSpot is a lightweight macOS menu bar app for finding GIFs. Click the menu bar icon, search, and then copy or drag any result straight into Messages, Slack, email, or anywhere else that accepts an image.
Getting started
- Open the panel — click the GifSpot icon in the menu bar.
- Search — type a term and press Return, or browse trending GIFs.
- Copy — click a GIF (or its copy button) to place it on your clipboard, then paste.
- Drag — drag a GIF directly into another app.
- Download — use the download button to save a GIF to disk.
- Favorites — tap the heart to keep GIFs in the Favorites tab.
Tips
- Keep on top — use the “On Top” toggle to keep the panel above other windows while you work.
- Launch at Login — right-click the menu bar icon to enable starting GifSpot automatically.
- Resize — drag the panel edges; GifSpot remembers your size.
Troubleshooting
- “GIF search is temporarily unavailable.” This usually means the GIPHY service is rate-limiting requests. Wait a moment and try again.
- No results / waiting for connection. GifSpot needs an internet connection to load GIFs. It retries automatically when you reconnect.
- A GIF won’t copy. Try the download button instead, or pick another result.
